Mike Berger, Expert CR and PRS First Vice President, will explain how to prune rosebushes, to maximize good spring growth. He will demonstrate on potted bushes (HT, floribunda, mini, shrub). Rick Brown, Consulting Rosarian and Rose Show Judge, who grows top-notch, award-winning roses near Richmond, will describe how to fertilize and how to spray against fungus and insect pests. What fertilizer? Which sprays and how often? Come hear his tips.

Saturday, May 29, 2010, from 2:00 pm to about 3:30 pm - Potomac Rose Society trip to tour the rosegardens at Brookside Gardens, 1800 Glenallan Av, Wheaton, MD 20902. Come see about 1,000 rosebushes. Multiple plants of most varieties ensure broad patches of harmonious color. Come see a broad mix of rose varieties, including about 50 hybrid teas and grandifloras, 15 floribundas and polyanthas, 25 modern and classic shrubs, and four or five each of climbers, old garden roses, and miniatures. Brookside is an AARS Display Garden. Many roses were selected for fragrance, including HT 'Mister Lincoln' and floribunda 'Rose Parade' (bred by J. Benjamin Williams in 1974). See also 'Rosa sericea pteracantha' (Wingthorn Rose) with its red thorns. Some OGR's were moved to the fragrance garden. 301-962-1400 or www.brooksidegardens.org. FREE. Open to all.
