The Potomac Rose Society will conclude our spring Open Garden season on Sunday, June 7, with a very special Members-Only visit to Lomnava, the extraordinary garden of Yvonne Tsikata in Great Falls, Virginia. The garden will be open to PRS members from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, rain or shine. Be sure to arrive by 2:45 PM for a short formal program, when Yvonne will discuss the evolution of her garden, answer questions, and lead a walk through the grounds.

Named “Lomnava,” meaning “If you love me, you will come to me,” this remarkable garden reflects Yvonne’s vision as a gifted designer, plantswoman, ARS Consulting Rosarian, and Extension Master Gardener affiliated with Green Spring Gardens. Since transforming the property from an open field in 2017, she has created a landscape of exceptional beauty and intention—one that continues to evolve with the seasons.

Designed as a series of distinct garden rooms—including a meadow, formal garden, white garden, Japanese-inspired space, and woodland garden—Lomnava offers discovery at every turn. Roses are woven throughout the design, from elegant parterres to apricot-hued plantings and climbing roses adorning arbors and obelisks—sure to delight any rose lover.

Yvonne’s garden has been featured in Veranda and Fine Gardening magazines, and stands as a true expression of horticultural artistry. This final gathering is a fitting close to our spring season—enchanting, inspiring, and not to be missed.

Registration for this event will close on Friday June 5. Members may bring two guests, and refreshments will be served. The address will be shared with registrants during the week prior to the event.

ARS Consulting Rosarians will earn one credit toward recertification for attending this open garden event.

As the global community switches to regenerative agricultural practices to secure our planetary health, the Potomac Rose Society is thrilled to welcome Leslie Lewis, Soil Food Web School board member, and founder of Living Systems Soil, LLC , for an exclusive deep dive into the microscopic world beneath our feet.

During this session, you will discover how to transition from a "chemically-dependent" garden to a self-sustaining ecosystem.

You'll learn the secrets of Mycelium—the vast underground networks of fungal hyphae that can extend for miles. These hairlike "arms" act as a living superhighway, delivering nutrients and water directly to your roses while shielding them from disease and pests.

That's right! If you feed your soil the right way, you may never have to feed your roses again!

We will also cover:

How to brew your own Actively Aerated Compost Tea (AACT) at home—a potent biological "shield" for your plants.
Which common gardening practices are hurting your soil's microbiome?
The specific "superfoods" that turn soil fungi into your rose's new best friend.

As a certified consultant and Board Member of the Soil Food Web School, Leslie is at the forefront of the movement to preserve the legacy of the late Dr. Elaine Ingham. On Sunday November 15, the Potomac Rose Society invites you to go behind the gates with Stephen Reid, Assistant Curator and Head Gardener of this iconic collection. Stephen doesn't just manage roses; he curates a legacy.

During this exclusive session, Stephen will share:

Curatorial Secrets: What it takes to maintain one of the most expansive and historic rose collections in the United States.
The Sustainable Shift: How Stephen merges traditional herbalism and landscape design with modern, sustainable practices.
The Curator's Eye: Insight on rose selection, aesthetics, and care from one of the most celebrated botanical landmarks in the world.

About the Speaker: Stephen Reid is a California native plant expert, educator, and landscape designer. As the Assistant to the Curator at The Huntington, he sits at the intersection of botanical history and future-forward sustainability. Known for his deep technical knowledge and engaging workshops, Stephen brings a unique "California-cool" perspective to the timeless art of the rose.
